As an organization committed to equipping people with the tools to build a world in which all can thrive, the Institute for Humane Education is honored and excited to endorse Andrea Jamison as a candidate for president of the American Library Association.

We have experienced first-hand Professor Jamison’s leadership as a member of our Board of Directors. She leads through listening, ensuring every voice is heard and uniting people in a common vision.

That vision is for a society that values and benefits from diverse perspectives. It is a vision that includes the power of our libraries to foster critical thinking and intellectual freedom. And it is a vision of bringing communities and organizations together to uphold the ideals of our democracy.

We are at a point in history when we are looking to our libraries to lead. We believe Andrea Jamison will gracefully inspire and empower them to do just that.

Respectfully,

Steve Cochrane

Feedback From Dr. J's Students

  •  I can not thank you enough for all of the guest speakers that you organized to come and speak with us! It is an interesting dynamic because a lot of us are already moving to the library jobs and doing the cert classes at the same time! Meeting, listening and connecting to others is a great help and eased my mind as we transition to the new school year! I look forward to taking more classes with you as I progress through this program!

  • Appreciated all of the visiting speakers and resources shared. All of the assignments and discussions are applicable to real life. Dr. Jamison's passion for the topics was evident.

  • I enjoyed this class and learned a lot. As a new librarian, this course was very helpful in preparing me for the fall, especially regarding mission statements and policies. The guest speakers were fabulous as well. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I look forward to learning from you again!

  • I enjoyed having Andrea Jamison as a teacher. Andrea Jamison was nice, caring, and very helpful.

  • Dr. J. is extremely knowledgeable and responsive to students' needs. The way she sets up class as a flipped classroom is helpful and allows for increased discussion. The guest speakers were also helpful. I look forward to taking another class with Dr. J.

  • I took this course BECAUSE she taught it.

  • Dr. J has been an amazing resources as I completed my LIS certificate! I have enjoyed every class that she has taught. ISU is lucky to have her on staff, and her students are lucky to work with her! I can't say enough praise about Dr. J, and I thank her for all she has taught me over the last year.

  • Thank you for all your help in this program. You have made the transition from classroom teacher to librarian easier, and I am walking away with so much knowledge of how to run a library.

  • I learned so much from you! I love your focus on breaking down barriers to provide access for all! Thank you for everything!

  • Dr. J. was an amazing teacher. She answered any question, even if it was a little off topic. She realized that we all have questions regarding our libraries and sometimes have nowhere else to go to find the answers. I really appreciated that. The amount of work was just right. She gave a variety of ways to learn and respond. I liked having asynchronous classes. It offered me freedom to do work when it worked best for me. I could do tasks during the day and do my asynchronous work late at night if I needed to do so. Dr. J. is continuously evaluating what will work best for her students. I am thankful for her changing course when she thought it might benefit her students. I also appreciated her warmth and kindness.

  • Dr. J is clearly very knowledgeable about her field, I appreciated her perspective and wide-breath of knowledge. I appreciate her passion.

  • This was a very helpful course! I feel much more prepared going into the library this school year! Thank you!

  • Always challenged us. I pushed myself and truly learned a lot about objectives, assessments, and lesson plans in this course.

  •  She is so amazing! Thoughtful, detailed, and passionate! She advocated for diversity in the classroom. She explained how we can be intentional teachers! I really appreciated her class and her as a teacher!

  • Andrea is a good teacher, although I am sure she would have been a great teacher in person. She made some very great points throughout the year and was very insightful.

  •  I love this prof! would definitely take another class with her!

  • She knows herself & is a great Professor who cares about the next generation of teachers who will be teaching students of tomarrow (SIC).

  •  Thank you so much for teaching me not only which topics to implement during social studies lessons but HOW to teach them and providing us with effective methods/strategies to do so. I truly have no complaints, only good things.

  •  I always enjoyed coming to this class especially with you as the instructor. You are always SO accommodating to the whole group and providing us with multiple suggestions. I felt that the workload was fair and manageable. You taught us some great ideas for implementing social studies lessons in the future and I'm excited to use them someday.

  •  I loved that you always checked in with us, whether that was through a conversation or Padlet response.

  • Thank you SO much for an awesome semester. Happy holidays and happy new year!

  •  Loved your class! I think it was great

  • Professor Jamison was one of my favorite professors! My only critique is that sometimes the expectations for assignments were a little confusing or hard to find/locate. Other than that, this course was amazing! Out of all my classes, I definitely learned the most from this one. Professor Jamison gave so many useful and practical examples that I will remember for my future career. She always asked stimulating questions about how we would handle difficult situations and I really appreciated that. Her lectures consisted of taking the material from the textbook and discussing how it practically looks in a classroom. I feel so much more prepared to be a teacher after this class and I haven't felt that way about any other course. I love that Professor Jamison is not afraid to talk about complex and uncomfortable issues that occur in education. I feel so much more knowledgable (SIC)  and capable of addressing these kinds of issues in the future!

  • Professor Jamison was a good professor, the only thing is I felt there were a lot of projects on top of each other.
